Typical Lacrosse Annual Schedule
The below information is provided to help explain when and what types of information you are likely to receive in a season and what types of activities players will typically be participating in during a given season.
January 1 | Box lacrosse registration opens. Those hoping to coach for the season should submit their applications as soon as they can. |
January and February | Box lacrosse winter preparation camps are typically available for players looking to tune up their skills for the upcoming season. |
Late February or early March | HOKS or the “A” team evaluations for 12U, 14U and 16U. Schedules for these evaluations will typically be emailed out and posted on the website and social media in the middle of February. “A” teams are selected prior to the start of other evaluations and “A” team practices may start right away. |
March 15 | Registrations are closed. |
Middle to end of March | Evaluations for all other teams take place. The schedule for these evaluations is usually emailed out in early March. Parents should watch their email box because emails regarding specific floor times for age groups with more than one evaluation floor time may change or be specified. |
End of March | Teams are selected and practices begin. Parents will receive an email from the club advising them which team their player has been placed on and who the head coach and manager for the team will be. Parents will also likely receive an email from the coach and manager with introductions, first practice times and similar information. |
Mid -April | Regular season games begin and some tournaments begin. The exact season opening date is typically revised to account for spring or Easter breaks for Calgary area schools. |
Mid-April to end of June | Regular season, most tournaments and the body of the lacrosse season typically fit into this time frame. |
End of June, Typically last day of June | Regular season ends. |
July 1 Weekend | Calgary Canada Day Tournament - one of the largest lacrosse tournments in North America, is hosted by the CDLA and its member clubs. |
After to July 1 to mid-July | City playoffs to complete the CDLA season. |
Mid-July | ALA holds provincials which can be available to all teams. |
November | ORLA holds its AGM and elects a new Board and holds planning meetings for the upcoming season to set its budget and related matters. |
December | Registration for winter camps opens up. |
